1. Export clean source subtitles
Export the source language subtitles from your editor or video platform. Keep a backup copy before cleaning or translating anything.
If captions were auto-generated, quickly fix obvious names, product terms, and punctuation before translation. Source errors multiply across every target language.
2. Translate with structure locked
Use a prompt that locks caption numbers and timestamps. Translate one language at a time and keep a glossary for names, product terms, and recurring phrases.
- Keep SRT numbering unchanged.
- Keep timestamp lines unchanged.
- Translate tone for the platform and audience.
- Review long translated lines before upload.
3. Preview before publishing
Upload the translated subtitle file as unlisted or draft content first. Watch the first minute, a dense middle section, and the ending to catch timing drift or missing cues.
After publishing, note which language pages and subtitle tools bring impressions in Search Console. That feedback should decide the next batch of content pages.
